When is Poush Putrada Ekadashi celebrated?
The fast of Posh Putrada Ekadashi of January month is observed on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha. In 2024, it will fall on 21 January, so those who would like to keep the fast they can keep it on Jan 21 (Sunday).
According to the Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi of Shukla Paksha of Paush month will start on January 20 at 07:26 in the evening and will end the next day i.e. January 21 at 07:26 in the evening. Udaya Tithi is considered in Sanatan Dharma. Therefore, Pausha Putrada Ekadashi will be celebrated on 21st January. Sadhaks can perform Parana on 22nd January by performing puja between 07:14 AM to 09:21 AM.
Method of fasting Putrada Ekadashi (पुत्रदा एकादशी व्रत की विधि)
On the day of Putrada Ekadashi, first take bath and then decorate the temple and Lord Vishnu with Tulsi plant and flowers. Now light the lamp & incense and worship Lord Vishnu.
- The person fasting after the puja has to observe Nirjala fast (without drinking water).
- Fruits should be taken only once a day. If possible, keep fasting.
- Worship Lord Vishnu again in the evening and listen to the story.
- Feed and donate to Brahmins.
Story of Putrada Ekadashi (पुत्रदा एकादशी व्रत कथा)
According to the Puranas, once upon a time King Vishnusharma was very troubled by his desire to have a son. He performed many yagyas and fasts but did not have a son. Then the sages suggested him to observe Putrada Ekadashi fast and worship Lord Vishnu.
The king did the same and by the grace of Lord Vishnu he was blessed with a son. Since then this fast started being observed for the birth of a son.
It is believed that the couple who observe this fast will soon be blessed with a beautiful and intelligent son.
